Kayla's Baby Shower

Stephen's little sister, Kayla and her fiance are expecting a baby on June 12th!!  We are soooooo excited for them and can't week to meet little baby Andre!  My sister in law, Jessica and I hosted a fun shower for her about a month ago (I know I'm way behind on the blog...)

We had such a fun time planning the shower for the new momma to be!

The welcome table...

We had everyone fill out envelopes to save Kayla a little time with thank you notes!

Everyone had to leave a page of advice for Kayla, most of them were helpful tips but she got some silly ones from her friends who don't have kids yet!

I had a lot of fun making this cute banner...I have a feeling I will be making a lot more of these in the future!

I just love the look of mason jars right now and the best part is they can be reused for every other shower and party I'm hosting this summer (its going to be a BUSY summer...)

It was an awesome day!  So fun to meet some of Kayla's friends I've heard so much about!

We can't wait to welcome this little boy very soon!

Staycation

Stephen and I were planning on taking a little spring break trip this year so we got a week off work and started doing a little research...and then plans changed...sooooo...
we had a nice little STAYCATION.
I have to admit I was pretty bummed when we decided not to go anywhere but it ended up being a nice relaxing week and we got some things done around the house!!

First up on the docket for the week Josie got spayed!  It worked out perfectly that we were home this weeks so we could tend to her needs.  She is a stubborn little thing so we were worried she was going to be picking at her staples until they came out.  Much to our surprise she was AWESOME!  What a trooper!  She only licked her staples once!
Josie and momma post surgery!

]
She got in lots of resting time after surgery!  Funny that she never laid on this bed before surgery, she would just drag it all over the room.  I guess this cozy bed is just what the doctor ordered for her smooth recovery!

The weather this week was gorgeous!  Josie was born on September 24th so she had never seen warm weather.  It was tough to keep her inside!  We took lots of walks and played ball in the backyard quite a bit!

Happy Josie!

Just loving life!

We hadn't done a lot of picture hanging in the house because I can't decide what I want to put on the walls....but this mirror was perfect for over the buffet in our living room!  I just love it!

All in all it was a nice week and we got to spend lots of time together!

Fun Fire Friends Cabin Weekend

My friend, Carryn and I joined the Eden Prairie Fire Auxillary in the fall as a way to help out with fire department events that our husbands are involved with.  Little did we know we would meet two great new friends, Catt and Patrice!  Its been so fun!  It feels like we have known these girls for a very long time when in reality we met less than 6 months ago!  We have spent a lot of time together just us girls and decided it was time to have the guys all hang out too so we planned a fun cabin weekend at Carryn's family cabin!

Here is all of the girls one of the first times we hung out outside of auxillary events!

It was a blast!  Unfortunately our friend Patrice got really sick the week before we were supposed to go up there so she was unable to make it but we are already working on making some plans for a redo this summer and fall!

We drove up Friday night after everyone got off work, headed to the grocery store to stock up on snacks and drinks for the weekend!  Catt, our little planner, had packed her whole kitchen to bring up there and there was more than enough food to feed a small army all weekend!  Of course she forgot her purse so when we went to the liquor store the lady there almost wouldn't sell to us because she didn't couldn't provide her ID.  After some slightly awkward interactions with the liquor store employee we got our drinks and were on our way!

The first night there we had so much fun playing college drinking games...that we had to look up the rules for again...clearly we haven't played for a while!  We played categories and it was hilarious!  Most memorable was when someone picked state capitols for the category, the Stephen said St. Paul and Catt shouted Milwaukee so confidently...we all just about died laughing!

The next morning we headed to Nelsons, a local truck stop for breakfast!  It was so delicious and just what the doctor ordered after a long night of drinking!  Then the girls split up from the guys and headed to our favorite place...CRAFTS DIRECT!  The boys went back to the cabin and watched March Madness and played with Paul and Catt's dog, Mia!

Here are the fun crafts I made from the weekend!  Needed a little spring decor to spice up our house!

A while back at Costco they had our favorite workout jackets again so we decided that we would have a "fun fire wives" jacket and all got matching ones in purple!  We decided back when we planned this weekend that all of us girls would wear our purple jackets on the same day!

I think Justin was a little jealous that he didn't have a purple jacket so he tried to squeeze into Carryns!

Oh poor Justin...

All of the girls sporting our "fun fire wives" uniform!

Saturday night Catt made a delicious chicken marsala meal for all of us!  She is such a great cook and we so love trying all of her recipes!  We stayed up late again talking and having some drinks by the fire!

Sunday we cleaned up the cabin and headed home!

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect weekend filled with relaxation, fun and great friends! We are so thrilled the guys got along so well!  I have a feeling we are all going to spending a lot of time together for a very long time!  So grateful to have such great friends!

Wow...I've gotten behind...

Wow...I have been really bad at staying caught up!  So lets catch up on life with our little Josie!  She is quite the spitfire but we love her sassy little attitude!  She is growing like a weed, weighed in at 14 pounds 3 ounces at the vet last week!

Josie and I all geared up to go out into the winter cold!  This week in Minnesota that temps were -15 to -20 degrees for a high and the wind chills were significantly colder than that!  Schools were cancelled many days due to the cold, something they never did when I was a kid!  Josie was not thrilled about going out in the cold and neither were we but hey nature calls right?!?!

Josie had her first haircut!

This is one of Josie's favorite toys!  Its a little monkey floor pillow that my niece, Avery gave to her!  She spends lots of time chewing on the nose, dragging it around and dancing with it!

So sweet and innocent when shes asleep!

Josie is officially potty trained!  Hallelujah!  She is loving that we allow her on the carpet now!!  We bell trained her after some struggles with trying to train her the old fashioned way so now she just rings a little jingle bell that hangs from our front door when she needs to go outside, its great!!

Another favorite toy is any kind of ball!  She loves them so much that she even slept with one as a pillow!  Silly girl!

Josie also started obedience school!  She goes to a place called Cloud Nine in Hopkins and we just love it!  She has learned so many things!  She can sit, lay down, stand, stay, wait, heel along with many other things! She passed the first level of obedience school and started level two a couple weeks ago!

Josie thinks she is queen of one of our couches!  So funny!

This picture is one of my favorites!  She has become obsessed...I mean like OCD obsessed with her travel crate!  If it isn't in our living room she will scratch at the doors in our house looking for it!  So its become a permanent fixture in the living room!  Sometimes we will be playing and then she will run upstairs and won't come back...so after some time we go looking for her and usually shes just resting in her travel crate.  My favorite thing is when she goes in there when we are trying to take her outside before we leave to go do something and she won't come out...she backs herself into it and stares at us and won't come out!  Its very inconvenient!  We haven't figured out if she goes in there thinking we will take her with or if shes trying to hide from us to avoid going outside!

As you can see our lives revolve around Josie our fun, loving pup and we are more than ok with that!

Christmas 2013

AHHHH Christmas time, I love everything about it.  Good food and quality time spent with family and friends!

Christmas is a little complicated for our family...with both Stephen, my sister and I working in healthcare someone is bound to be working some of the holiday and add to that the many Christmas gatherings our families have...it can become hectic to say the least.  Every year I say, we really need to rotate which family we spend the actual holiday with...and every year we end up running around to each family so we don't miss anything!

This year we started off the celebrating a little early with my dad, sister, brother-in-law and niece and nephew.  We typically celebrate our Christmas early so it is one less celebration to squeeze in on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.  We hosted the gathering this year.  It was so much fun to have the whole family over to the new house and decorate the new house for the holiday!  We used to spend Christmas Day at my Grandma Doris' house until she passed away a few years ago.  It was a very traditional Norwegian feast...complete with lutefisk, meatballs, ribs, potatoes, corn, lefse, and flatbread.  I can't believe my grandma used to make all of the food for this on her own and fed a very large crowd.  Anywho...this year we decided to have a traditional Grandma Doris meal with my family and it turned out AWESOME!  My dad made meatballs from the Fron Church Cookbook and I made homemade lefse.  Grandma Doris was definitely smiling down from heaven watching us have a traditional meal!

A little glimpse at the table set-up...note to self, in the next house we need a way bigger dining room

We got some awesome gifts!  I got a magic bullet and a new George Forman grill...complete with removable grill plates for easy cleaning...SCORE.  Stephen got a cordless drill and a whole bunch of tools!  Perfect!!!

Josie got some new toys and treats!  She had a lot of fun playing with the family!  We put her in the crate while we helped people gather their things to leave, no joke 3 minutes later we found her like this...all tuckered out.  What a sweet baby she is!

Next up we spent Christmas Eve morning at Stephens parents house with his siblings and parents.  We had a delicious brunch and opened gifts.  All of the kids got money this year which will come in handy as we continue to decorate the new house.  I also got a cake stand and some new lotion and body wash!

My father in law, Bob is really into taking selfies...so this is Bob's selfie with family...it took a few tries but somehow he managed to squeeze us all in!

Christmas Eve night we went to Stephens grandparents house to spend time with the whole extended Branham family!  We had some great food and good laughs with the family!  They have a fun tradition that has been going on forever called doorbell santa.  After all of the gifts have been opened...the doorbell rings and magically more gifts appear from doorbell santa.  Grandma Branham works really hard to gather things for our doorbell santa gifts.  I would kind of compare them to stockings, they have little trinkets and candy usually.  There is also a tradition that my father in law and his brothers get a totally outrageous hat or something festive to wear...we're talking flashing Rudolph noses, reindeer hats...etc.

Apparently I missed the silly face memo...

We went to church on Christmas Eve at 10pm.  I love this service at St. Andrew because at the end of the service they turn out all of the lights in the sanctuary and everyone has candles while we sing silent night.  It is such a beautiful sight to look around the church at all of the candles, I can only imagine what it is a like to be our pastor staring out at the congregation...it must be breath taking.

On Christmas Day I went to my sisters house for brunch with my mom, step dad, brother, sister, brother in law, niece, and nephew.  Stephen had to work so I was flying solo with Josie.  She can be quite the handful when she is in a new place!  YIKES!  My brother in law's mom and brother were also there to celebrate Christmas with us.  It was so nice to see them!  After a little nap we headed back to my sisters for dinner and games.  My brother in law, Scott is an awesome cook and he made quite the feast for us, some kind of beef, feta mashed potatoes, chipotle and sesame carrots, roasted cauliflower, bread and all kinds of other goodies.  After the kids went to bed the adults played the dice game.  Its a fun tradition we have where everyone brings a $15 gift and we pass dice around and you have a to roll a double to get a gift.  After the first round everyone unwraps the gifts and then we have another timed round where people can steal from each other.  It gets rather competitive!  You aren't guaranteed to win a gift...and just my luck I didn't get one...AGAIN...seriously I don't get a gift most times.

Last but not least we celebrated one last time with my mom, step dad, sister, brother, brother in law, niece and nephew today!  We spent time at my mom's house making homemade pizzas and opening gifts.  Josie loved playing with my parents dog, Mosely.  They chased each other all around the house!  It was fun to see her socialize with another dog!  We got some great gifts once again!  I got a new winter coat, mittens, make up, and jewelry.  My mom and step dad also got us a group gift...two days on Lake Minnetonka where we will rent a boat and spend time together!  We had a great time doing this last summer to celebrate my moms birthday and are looking forward to getting out on the lake again this summer!

Avery and I have perfected the sassy diva pose!

The one nice picture I have of Stephen and I from Christmas!

As you can see Christmas was a little busy...and even though I say we need to pick a family to spend each holiday with every year...I wouldn't change our crazy Christmas for anything!  We are so incredibly blessed to have such wonderful families to spend the holidays with!

House Update!

I know, I know, its been a while since I gave a house update!  Sorry, we have been busy trying to make it feel more homey and working on potty training the new puppy!

Here is a look at our almost finished kitchen!  All of the major projects are done, HALLELUJAH!  We just need to add a backsplash and finish the electrical work in there!

This is my favorite DIY project so far!  I found these cool curtains at Ikea and they were WAYYYY too long!  Our ceilings are vaulted and pretty high in the living room but apparently in Sweden ceilings are to the moon and people need long curtains!  So I picked up some iron on hemming tape at Joann Fabrics and shortened them up to the right length for our house.  Then I added some black silk ribbon over the area that I hemmed up, A. so I could cover up my hemming job and B. to add a little visual interest to the curtains!  I think they turned out awesome considering they only cost $70 all together for 4 curtains!

Christmas time has arrived at our house as well!  Josie loves our tree a little too much...she has gone after all of the ornaments and branches!  We picked up some spray that is supposed to help prevent chewing on things...of course our dog likes the spray...what the heck!  Needless to say we have puppy proofed the tree!

FA LA LA LA LA LA!

We picked up this buffet from Ikea also to store the excessive amount of serving pieces we got as wedding gifts.  Seriously...why didn't someone tell me I didn't need like 151972983728 platters, 84758347589 large bowls and 66345783465 vases...I mean its a little excessive!!

This is my favorite part...AHHH a new couch!  I love the chaise on the couch, its my favorite place to sit!

We are slowly but surely getting there with decorating, next up is finally hanging up some pictures all over the house!  Can't wait to have it all done so I can post a complete house tour!
